Sire: Gonzo I

G A T S B Y' S   P E D I G R E E
Gonzo I  x  Kalua Song

Gatsby is by the elite Hanoverian stallion, Gonzo I.  Gonzo was America 's most requested Hanoverian stallion between 1995-1997.  Gonzo was a successful Grand Prix show jumper, an amazing Puissance horse, topping the 7'2" wall on several occasions, and competed successfully through 4th level dressage.  With athleticism, work ethic, and intelligence, Gatsby continues the famous legacy of Gotthard, Gepard, and Gonzo, proving the great value of his heritage.

Gatsby is an excellent sire!   He improves a wide variety of different types of mares and stamps his excellent qualities on his offspring with amazing consistency.

CONFORMATION:
Gatsby tends to pass on his uphill build, long legs, substantial bone and substance, his neck and topline, beautiful head, big shoulder, and strong loin connection.  Not only will Gatsby typically add substance to lighter mares, but because of his modern type, he will also refine heavier mares.

MOVEMENT:
Gatsby’s foals tend to inherit his beautiful suspension, natural uphill balance & cadence, great shoulder freedom, and excellent canter.  Gatsby, himself, is very elegant, light, sensitive, and forward and his foals are excellent movers as well.

JUMPING:
Time and time again we hear reports from foal owners about their foals’ propensity to jump anything and everything in their way with ease, natural talent, and great form.  Several foal owners have reported that their Gatsby offspring will take every opportunity to jump, whether in the pasture or in an arena, just for the fun of it.

MIND & TEMPERAMENT:
One of Gatsby’s hallmark traits is his outstanding mind, which is marked by a gentle, sweet disposition, an excellent work ethic, and an incredibly high degree of trainability and willingness.  Because of the somewhat unpredictable nature of breeding in general, it’s obvious that both parents offer their unique traits to their offspring.  However, many, many, MANY of Gatsby’s foal owners acknowledge that their foals have inherited Gatsby’s mind and temperament, even when these qualities were lacking in their mares.

These traits that Gatsby so readily passes on are important for all the Sporthorse disciplines.  They are equally important for the Warmblood mare as they are for a Thoroughbred.  Read what one European Keuring judge has to say about the influence of bloodlines and traits like Gatsby’s on Sporthorse breeding in North America:

"In general for the Thoroughbred mares you should use a stallion with proven bloodlines and genetics. If possible a modern type, solid in bone and conformation but not too heterogeneous (not having too much variety or dissimilar types) in his pedigree. Especially for that specific mare (medium sized and light in bone, maybe not uphill) you should be sure that the stallion produces long legs, good shoulders and uphill-built offspring.  Especially for the TB mares you have to look for a stallion that has a good or very good walk with overreach and rhythm. Some TB in the stallion's pedigree is not a problem - if the stallion is solid in bone and conformation. A good topline is important, with good muscles and a big shoulder.  The Hanoverian G line is good for this…" [Gatsby is Hanoverian G line] ...A lot of "hot," "modern," "in the press" stallions are well promoted but not always the gene tic solid type for the TB cross."

GUNNER
2003 gelding by Gatsby
More about Gunner>

Gatsby stood to another full book in 2009. He consistently produces outstanding foals out of a variety of different mares. Gatsby stamps his foals with great bone, size, conformation, athleticism, refinement, and consistently amazing temperaments, making him an excellent choice for amateurs or professionals in any sporthorse discipline.

Gatsby not only turns heads with his beauty and presence, but he steals hearts wherever he goes, whether in training, grooming, or just working around him in the barn.  He is a perfect gentleman when he is around people and horses alike.  Most riders want a horse that is not only talented, but fun and safe too.  The story remains consistent - people love their Gatsby babies and are hailing them as the most beautiful, talented, trainable, and sweet horses they've ever had.

We are looking forward to hearing more about the accomplishments of Gatsby's offspring as they get older and start launching their competition careers.  Below are some of the achievements reached thus far by his foals.
